Field Notes to Studio - Craig Reynolds
Dec 4, 5, & 6, 2020
Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach, Orange Beach, AL

This informative and useful class is designed to help you create more dynamic paintings by using information gathered on location in a more natural environment. Whether it be an outdoor location, indoor still life situation or drawing from life, these experiences, if looked at closely, reveal so many nuances that we learn to notice which will help us produce a more dynamic painting. It’s the small differences that add the third dimension to our paintings. These subtle qualities will take your good painting to a great painting. You will learn to see the air between you and your subject and create a great sense of atmospheric perspective, as well as being enlightened as to making great choices in composition, color harmony, value
harmony, edge work, handling your material, size and aspect ratio and useful marketing information.

CRAIG REYNOLDS–Let's Make Plein Air Painting Easy–April 22 thru 25, 2015–$325

Craig Reynolds Studio Workshops are designed to cover a broad range of information that is beneficial to the intermediate artist or the seasoned artist as well. I expect each student in my workshops to have at least a little knowledge and experience in oil painting. I like to keep the number of students in my workshops at a lower level than most so I can give everyone full attention. My workshops are casual and fun and I want to make everyone feel comfortable, I think I have a very simple solution to painting landscapes en plein air so “Lets Make Plein Air Painting Easy”.

On the night before the workshop I’ll start with an introduction reception and lecture with a visual presentation and cover some of my basic theories on composition, value judgement and color mixing. Also at this time I’ll show you a very useful four step guide to establishing value, atmospheric perspective and color within the landscape. This is also a great time to get to know each other and discuss your problem areas that you’d like to address during the workshop.

On each day of painting I’ll spend most of the morning painting a demo while discussing and explaining each step I do. At this time you can either elect to watch and take notes and photographs or if you wish you can paint along at this time as well. Please feel free to ask questions during every phase of the workshop. You’ll have plenty of painting time each day with selected subjects on the first day and selecting your own subjects on the second day. I’ll also throw in some 15 minute exercises on both days to sharpen your skills even more.

We will finish out the workshop with a show and tell and critic session. At this time feel free to discuss your goals and what you think you’ve learned and to ask questions. Feel free to call me or contact me in the future for questions, show me your latest work or just to stay in touch.

I will bring a few framed paintings to show or sell during the workshop and the demo’s will be for sale as well.
